Simon Pilcher

Simon has a real passion for coaching and a passion for helping athletes reach their full potential, I am dedicated to providing personalised and effective coaching to athletes of all levels. My coaching journey began with a deep love for sports and a desire to make a positive impact on the lives of others. I am actively still training and competing in multisport events. As a British Triathlon Level 3 High-Performing Coach I bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to my coaching. I love to learn more and have a commitment to continuous learning, this is reflected in my ongoing professional development, with CPD training, Athlete feedback and self reflection. My coaching philosophy is centered around the belief that consistency is the key to success. By coaching the person, not just the sport, I focus on building strong athlete relationships and creating tailored training plans based on science-backed data alongside athlete feedback. I believe that by understanding each athlete's unique needs, goals, and challenges, we can work together to achieve significant improvements in both the physical, mental and technical aspects of the sport. I am passionate about creating robust athletes who can thrive in their chosen sport for the long term. Through a holistic approach that prioritises injury prevention, proper recovery, and sustainable training practices, I aim to help athletes develop the resilience and longevity they need to succeed in their athletic endeavours. Whether you're a beginner looking to get started in endurance sports or an experienced athlete striving for podium finishes, I am here to support you every step of the way. Darren is a UK Athletics Coach in Running Fitness, British Triathlon Level 2 Diploma Coach and Training Peaks Certified Coach. Darren was a bit later to the sporting world, other than some recreational mountain biking growing up, but inspired by a family member he entered his first triathlon in 2011 (after all, how hard can it be?). He soon realised how tough this endurance sport could be after a breaststroke swim, painfully hilly bike and jog/walk 'run' to finish towards the back of the pack. A half marathon soon followed with similar results and while proud of completing these events Darren was keen to improve. "I knew nothing about the requirements for these events so my training was pretty random and purely to just get round and survive!" With a naturally inquisitive mind, research and learning about training principles and racing techniques filled as much time as the training itself over the next few years, and improvements came over swim, bike and run, with many running, cycling, and triathlon events up to 70.3. "It took a while to really understand what I needed to do and what could be done; I kept picking up niggles doing too much, then having big breaks. Eventually things started to click though, I was getting faster and enjoying the training more, but trial and error is a slow and sometimes painful process; it would have been a lot easier if I had someone to guide me from the start and help me with what I needed to do!” Darren is focusing on making the next step up in 70.3 performance in 2023 alongside cycling TTs and running events.
